SPRING FOREST QIGONG CLASS
Instructor:  Spirit with Harmonious Living

Increase your energy and vitality through learning Spring Forest Qigong to have a healthier mental attitude toward life.  The name Qigong (chee-kung) is an ancient system of self improvement and healing developed about 4,000 years ago in China.  Qigong utilizes special methods of breathing, posture, gentle movement, and mental concentration to balance and strengthen energy systems within the body.  Participants will learn Spring Forest Qigong to help develop the mind, attention, and concentration to be applied toward life.

Board with your vision of life?  Choose to change the way you look at life by creating a new outlook filled with positive images on a vision board.  Vision boards help to create a future worth working for to help you focus and direct your life’s purpose.  Participants will cut out pictures, paint, and draw to create a vision board.  Supplies included.

UMOJA DRUM & MUSIC CLASS

Instructor:  Spirit with Harmonious Living

In this class participants will learn and develop basic hand drumming and percussion skills, improve sense of timing and rhythm, and have fun playing music in a supportive environment. Through the shared expression of music, participants will learn three life principles Support (to build community), Stepping Out (to develop creativity), and Sharing (to foster cooperation).

Alfred Dickey Library will lead hour long discussions on “A Farewell To Arms”. There are six different sessions planned. Pick the one that works for you. These sessions are for individuals who are not attached to a reading group or for reading groups who wish to attend as a group.

Big Read Events

April 12 - Saturday - 12:00 noon - Signature Event: Dine with Hemingway
Location: Jamestown Civic Center

Papa Hemingway, portrayed by Actor Tom Roberts kicks off the Buffalo City’s Big Read at the Civic Center.  The North Dakota Reading Association is hosting their annual conference during which Mr Roberts will be the keynote speaker at the Saturday luncheon.  Mr Roberts performance is free and open to the public. There is a $10 charge for lunch and reservations for lunch may be made by calling the Arts Center 251-2496


2:00 pm - Celebrate Reading & Joseph Pulitzer’s Birthday
Location: Alfred Dickey Library Location

Ernest Hemingway was a Pulitzer prize recipient.  To celebrate the kick off of Jamestown’s Big Read the Alfred Dickey Library will be answering questions about how to get involved in the Big Read and serving birthday cupcakes in honor of Joesph Pulitzer’s April birthday. 


April 14 - Monday - 7:00 pm - An Evening with Hemingway
Location: Gallery Arts Center
Actor Tom Roberts will do a one hour portrayal of Ernest Hemingway on stage at the Arts Center.  The performance is free and refreshments will be provided after the performance. Mr. Roberts will be working the remainder of the week in the high school English department, bringing Hemingway to life for the students.

April 24 - Thursday - 5:00 pm - A Presentation & Discussion on Surviving War
Location: All Vets Club - Ticket Required

Nancy Waller, counselor from the Vets Center in Fargo, will talk on surviving war as a soldier or family and friends of military personnel.  The Vets Club is serving dinner prior to the presentation.  Children will then go to the Arts Center for an art activity while their parents stay at the Vets Club for Nancy’s presentation.  This activity is free but prior reservations are required and can be made by calling the Arts Center  at  251-2496.


May 3 - Saturday - 6:00 - 7:00 pm All Ages • 7:00 - 9:00 pm Adults Only
Final Event - Cuban/Italian Music and Food Tasting. Tickets Required

Celebrate a successful Big Read at our final event. Come taste the foods of Cuba and Italy, two of Hemingway’s favorite haunts while listening to Italian opera , Cuban jazz and other musical selections.
