Children's Theater Opportunity
3/2/2009 12:20:40 PM
The Arts Center continues to bring high-quality theater opportunities to area school children.  These performances are available to both public school students and home school students.  We hope that you will remember the value of these experiences for your children with a Family Membership to the Arts Center.

Theatreworks USA will be presenting two plays for grades K-6 in the Jamestown High School auditorium on Wednesday, April 1st.  Performances at 8:50 and 10:15 will be “Duck Soup” in which kids learn about the hilarious consequences of not following instructions. This large-illusion family spectacle features illusions such as the “Broomstick Suspension,” an amazing defiance of gravity; “Twister,” 360 degrees of twisted humor; “Metamorphosis,” & Houdini’s famous mysterious masterpiece.  At 1:00 pm, “The Wizard’s Apprentice” teaches that the greatest secret to magic and life is to possess good reading skills and to know how to find the books you need. With its large illusions and innovative masks, this play is an audience participation treat for all!

THEATREWORKSUSA is America’s largest non-profit theatre for young and family audiences. Founded in 1961, they annually tour coast to coast, performing to an audience of four million.  The performers, Tim & Robin Balster, have been thrilling audiences with their illusions for over twenty years. Their performances have taken them from Florida to Alaska and from California to Maine. They have also traveled to perform internationally, including the Bahamas, Korea, and dozens of exotic tropical ports.

UND Steel Drum Band Performs
3/2/2009 11:53:30 AM
UND Steel Drum Band
Bringing a range of artistic disciplines to all students is one of the goals of the artist in residence program.  Students have already enjoyed the history of Celtic music and an introduction to various ancient and common folk instruments as they listened to the lively presentation by Willson & McKee.  Now for music from a warmer climate – the UND Steel Drum Band (an ensemble of 13 percussionists) will perform in the schools bringing music from tropical islands whose calypso sounds will transport us out of the land of snow.
This band will also be performing for the community at Jamestown High School auditorium on Monday, March 9th at 7:00 pm.  Admission is $5 for Arts Center members and $7 for non-members – students are admitted FREE.
